Torus (torus.simbolik.ai), my encyclopedia for the game X4: Foundations, has its own privacy policy and terms of use.

The server's logs

DreamHost hosts both sites, and its server logs every request: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and your browser. The logs exist to keep the sites running and safe, which the law counts as a legitimate interest. They're deleted after about 7 days. DreamHost is a US company, so the logs go to the US. They go under the EU's standard contractual clauses, a contract the EU wrote for sending data abroad.

What you send me

You can email hello@simbolik.ai, or fill in the brief on the contact page. When you press Send, the form gives what you wrote to this site's server, which emails it to me and keeps no copy. On the way it passes through DreamHost's servers in the US, under the same clauses as the logs. If the form can't send, it opens your own email app with the brief written out, and you press send. The mailbox is at Proton, in Switzerland, a country the EU counts as safe for personal data.

I use what you write to answer you and, when you ask about work, to prepare a proposal. The law calls these a legitimate interest and steps before a contract. I keep it for 2 years after our last contact, and longer for clients where tax law requires it.

Book a call opens Calendly's own page. What you enter there goes to Calendly, a US company signed up to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the EU accepts as safe. It reaches me as a booking, and I keep it as long as an email.

What stays in your browser

The sites set no cookies, run no analytics or ads, and have no accounts. Every font, picture, and script comes from the sites themselves. Two choices are saved in your browser when you make them, and never leave it:

  • light or dark, on both sites
  • the sidebar, open or closed, on the Showroom.

Clearing the site's data in your browser removes them. Search on the Showroom runs in your browser too, so what you type isn't sent anywhere.

Your rights

You can ask what I hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted, or sent to you in a file you can take elsewhere. You can also ask me to limit how I use it, or object to it. Write to hello@simbolik.ai. I answer within a month.

If you think I got it wrong, you can complain to a data protection authority, such as the one where you live or work.
